Only £50 to "Ask An Architect" and support local cancer research

A popular initiative aimed at raising funds for a cancer charity is offering consultations with chartered architects for less than the normal price.

A popular initiative aimed at raising funds for a cancer charity is offering consultations with chartered architects for less than the normal price.

For a minimum donation of just £50, members of the public and businesses can secure an hour-long slot with an expert to discuss their project.

The ‘Ask An Architect’ scheme, sponsored by Progressive Building Society, is also open to community and voluntary groups who can avail of the service to improve their facilities.

Now in its ninth year, the fundraiser, which has already raised over £90,000, runs until the end of next month.

Progressive Chief Executive Michael Boyd said the Northern Ireland-only building society was delighted to be a key sponsor of the architect-led scheme.

“It’s a simple concept that offers enormous benefits,” he said.

“By making a minimum donation, anyone can benefit from an hour-long consultation with a chartered architect, with no strings attached.

“If someone is planning a business project, for example, Ask An Architect can provide invaluable support and guidance.

“Similarly, for anyone wanting to revamp an existing space, add an extension to their home or office, or design something new from scratch, this initiative offers them the chance to connect with an architect who can help bring their ideas to life.”

Organised by the Royal Society of Ulster Architects and the Jill Todd Trust, the consultation with an architect is free of any obligations or restrictions.

It also allows participants to discuss any aspect of their building project whether it’s real or imagined, large or small, and it can be at any stage from conception to completion.

The costs of running the scheme are covered by sponsors Progressive and NIE Networks, which means 100% of all donations goes to support local cancer research and clinical trials through the work of the Friends of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital.
