The competition

We want children to decorate and colour in the Northern Ireland Savings Week logo and tell us what they’re saving for! Simply download the entry sheet above. These will be judged by a Member of our Senior Management Committee, with the best design winning £1,000 for their school, and second and third placed pupils winning an iPad Air each for theirs.

Why are we running a competition for schools?

Research we carried out in conjunction with YouGov ahead of last year’s NI Savings Week noted that 53% of people thought adding saving money to the school curriculum would be a great way of promoting its benefits, while 50% of those surveyed who already save, told us that they began to do so under the age of 24.  We therefore realised that a key focus for this year needed to be on schools’ engagement, and that through encouraging teachers like yourself to promote saving to your pupils, we have a real opportunity to influence the next generation to be financially independent and saving savvy.  We do however also recognise that savings is not the most interesting of topics, particularly for children, so we need to try and find a way of making it fun, and that’s how we came up with our ‘paint a pig’ competition!

We run Northern Ireland Savings Week in conjunction with the Consumer Council and they have provided us with some hints and tips for parents to teach their children about saving.
